CS373 Fall 2020: Week of Nov 9 — Nov 15

What did you do this past week?
This past week I attended lectures, read The New Methodology, and got started with refactoring some of our group’s code for the IDB project.
What’s in your way?
Currently, not much. I wish I knew more about JavaScript to be more useful in refactoring, but I’m learning quickly and excited to continue learning this week.
What will you do next week?
This week I hope to finish refactoring and styling the individual model pages for our IDB website. I’d also like to do a large portion of work on our group’s presentation video. As always, I also plan to go to lectures, read the next article, and complete the next blog post.
If you read it, what did you think of The New Methodology?
I actually wasn’t as much a fan of this article as ones in the past. I found the descriptions of agile methodologies to be outdated (which makes sense given the age of the article) and more theoretical than practically descriptive. I also found it was unnecessarily long for the amount of information it conveyed.
What was your experience of SQL? (this question will vary, week to week)
I loved the SQL unit. I have worked with SQL in the past both in internships and the IDB project, but learning more about it was a lot of fun. SQL and database engineering in general is a topic that really interests me.
What made you happy this week?
Lots of little things.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My pick of the week is CS 376 Computer Vision for anyone looking for CS electives. The class and project have been very interesting and it’s one of my favorite electives I’ve had so far (along with SWE of course).
